2014 Feline Film Fest ticket sales benefit LifeLine Animal Project and the Catlanta initiative!
LifeLine Animal Project’s “Catlanta” is the first and largest organized program in the Atlanta area dedicated to humanely controlling feral cat colonies. Catlanta provides resources and support to effectively manage feral cats without killing them. This widely-accepted, humane method of controlling feral cat populations is called TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), a comprehensive method where entire feral colonies are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and neutered by veterinarians. Kittens and cats that are tame enough to be adopted are placed in good homes. Adult cats are returned to their familiar habitat to live out their lives under the watchful care of sympathetic neighborhood Catlanta volunteers.
Catlanta has sterilized more than 15,000 feral cats through TNR. Catlanta operates a trap loan program, provides trapping instructions and workshops, distributes donated cat food to managed colonies, and maintains data on more than 600 feral colonies in greater Atlanta. Over 100 requests for information or assistance are handled monthly by LifeLine’s Catlanta staff and volunteers.
Through the new Feral Freedom program in DeKalb County, animal-control officers bring stray and feral cats directly to LifeLine to be spayed or neutered and then returned to their neighborhoods or placed in adoptive homes. This groundbreaking partnership has reduced the euthanasia rate for cats at DeKalb County Animal Services by 78 percent in one year.
Atlanta-based LifeLine Animal Project works to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable dogs and cats in animal shelters. LifeLine helps prevent unwanted pet litters through low-cost spay/neuter, helps make pet care affordable through low-cost and free vaccine clinics, saves the lives of special needs shelter animals through our rehabilitation facility, and saves feral cats through our trap-neuter-return program. As the managing organization for Fulton County and Dekalb County Animal Services, LifeLine Animal Project is making Atlanta a lifesaving community.
LifeLine's programs strengthen the entire animal welfare community by promoting homeless pet adoption, providing affordable spay/neuter services, increasing public awareness, and advocating for lifesaving public policy. And, by supporting the work of other rescue organizations and animal control agencies, both locally and nationally, LifeLine has established a network of hope that continues to grow.
The LifeLine Spay & Neuter Clinics, low cost, high-quality, high-volume clinics, have performed over 50,000 low-cost or no-cost spay/neuter surgeries. Additionally, LifeLine operates Catlanta, the only organized feral and stray cat assistance program in the area, which has provided more than 15,000 below-cost sterilizations and vaccinations for Atlanta’s feral and stray cat population.
Each year, nearly 500 dogs and cats come through LifeLine special care facilities, LifeLine’s Kitty Motel and Dog House, where we provide both medical and behavioral rehabilitation for abandoned and abused animals with special needs, particularly victims of animal cruelty. We also make this special care available to local rescue groups seeking extra help for their own animals in need.
Kitty Motel residents enjoy a cage-free environment filled with all the toys and climbing towers cats love. The Kitty Motel features floor-to-ceiling vertical spaces for playing, hiding and of course, napping. Volunteers supply cats and kittens with all the love and attention they could ever want.
LifeLine's nationally recognized shelter evaluation team provides assessments and consultations at animal care and control shelters across the country to improve operations, reduce disease, and help animal control agencies save more lives.
LifeLine's website is home to the largest online pet adoption network in Atlanta. More than 50 shelters and rescue groups throughout the area post adoptable animals to a searchable database, which features over 1500 animals available for adoption each day.
