No need to make resolutions since I don’t have any bad habits (ha!), instead I decided to set 3 creative goals for myself in 2009.
- Be published by a magazine that I have not appeared in before.
- Create a piece of art (in any media) that I am proud to display.
- Help me out here — I feel like I should have a third goal — does anyone have a suggestion?

This Friday, Jan. 30, my contract is ending with the interactive agency I’ve doing doing in-house work for. I wanted to leave behind a fun resume so they can contact me for other projects, so I’m working on a “word cloud” design. It’s still in the early development stage, but check it out below — kind of cool, huh?
The point is to highlight key words that encapsulate skills. Then if someone wants to learn more they can visit my website for additional info. When it’s done it will be more focused, plus I need to make sure the contact info pops. I know it looks jumbled right now, but I’m working on it…

BTW, I’m using http://www.wordle.net/ to generate ideas, then plan to make a vector version on my own.

I’m sitting here in Atlanta working a contract gig for an interactive agency. When I first signed-on it was for three months — from mid-October to mid-January. Then, when mid-January came around, we extended the contract for another month — till mid-February. But today the account I was working on went belly-up, so it looks like I’ll be leaving shortly.
I’ve been having to come into an office every day and punch a proverbial clock (which is not my usual modus operandi), so part of me is relieved to be free again. But part of me is apprehensive since I don’t know what’s next.

Kittyboy Creations headquarters, circa 1997 (per the timestamp on the photo file). This is my office (i.e. desk and computer) that was located out of the second bedroom of my condo on Roswell Road. Back in the day I was uber-confident and landed some amazing gigs. I gotta get my groove back!

I’ve attended the Sundance Film Festival 5 times. And don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot of fun, but I realized on Friday that I just don’t care anymore.
Actually, maybe I do care — I care too much about being honest. And that’s the problem.
I’m out of the Indie Film scene at the moment and it didn’t even register with me that it was time for the festival until I heard an overzealous CNN reporter doing the yearly bullshit report, “I’m standing on Main Street in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival — where Independent Filmmakers come to be discovered.” I immediately switched the channel so I wouldn’t be subjected to anymore pie-in-the-sky reporting.
Sure, maybe a handful of people in 30 years have been “discovered” there, but how many filmmakers have won a coveted exhibition time at the festival and never had their film released. Let, me tell you, it’s way more than were discovered.
If it’s your passion, then I guess you gotta do it, but it’s not mine.

(l to r) Atlanta film producer Linda Burns and Lynn Lamousin (that’s me!) on a flight from Atlanta to Salt Lake City in 2005 — the last year I attended Sundance. I feel like I went out on an upswing. I was operating on a press pass and an assignment from Creative Loafing and this was a fun time.

No, not a dingbat like a graphic font.
You know — a ditz, an airhead, scatterbrained, a space cadet, blonde on the inside…
The reason I say this is if I didn’t call myself a dingbat I’d have to consider the fact that I might have early onset Alzheimer’s.
So, I’d rather call myself a dingbat.

Okay, I’m not moving again — but my furniture is.
Last night I moved a large dresser out of my walk-in closet and into my living room. The room looked so bare (it was making me sad), plus the piece was taking up too much closet space. Check it out… looks better, huh?

There’s a much-used saying “Home is where the heart is” — which alludes to the fact that where you live isn’t necessarily the place you consider “home.” Well, as someone who is now dashing between primary and secondary residences (in Baton Rouge and Atlanta, respectively) I have to tell you, that saying is bullshit.
Here’s the deal… I own a house in Baton Rouge and 95% of my “stuff” is there. But I don’t like living in Baton Rouge. There’s no work for my profession and no organizations that support my interests.
So, I also have an apartment in Atlanta. A place where I have work and a lot of creative opportunities. Only about 5% of my “stuff” is there, but Atlanta is more where I consider my heart.
But having been away from my house in BR for weeks and months at a time is making me miss “home” terribly. So, to hell with home being where your heart is — home is where your stuff is.
